Paper Smart

Think before you print — print duplex, use only what you need.

Reduce paper and ink use at the office by working on screen, printing only what you need, and getting more from the paper you use.

Why it matters

Paper production uses many resources — raw materials, water and energy. Reducing paper use lowers office costs and the environmental footprint at the same time.

Modern tools let most documents be handled on screen. Printing only what is needed, using both sides, and reusing single-sided paper are habits everyone can start immediately without affecting work.

Do this today

Read and act immediately — no big programme required.

  • Edit and review documents on screen instead of printing every draft
  • Print and copy only when necessary
  • Make double-sided (duplex) printing the default
  • Reuse single-sided paper for notes or internal printing
  • Send and store documents electronically where possible
  • Separate used paper for recycling

Quick knowledge

Fact

Duplex halves your paper

Printing on both sides halves the paper used per document compared with single-sided printing.

Explain

Going digital

Sending documents by email, storing them digitally, and sharing files reduces printing without losing productivity.

Explain

Ink and supplies

Review before printing, use ink-saving modes, and set sensible print settings to make ink and stationery last longer.

Everyday Green Challenge

Today, set duplex printing as your default and check which documents don't really need to be printed.
