Green Mobility

Walk, cycle, share — plan greener trips.

Reduce fuel use and greenhouse gas from travel by planning trips, sharing rides, and choosing lower-emission options.

Why it matters

Travel is one of an organisation's main greenhouse gas sources, driven by fleet fuel use. Reducing distance and the number of trips cuts both cost and impact.

Deciding before you travel — combining errands into one trip, using public transport, cycling or walking short distances, and ride-sharing — costs nothing and can start today.

Do this today

Read and act immediately — no big programme required.

  • Plan trips in advance and combine multiple errands into one journey
  • Use public transport or shuttle services where available
  • Walk or cycle for short distances
  • Carpool with colleagues travelling the same way
  • Hold online meetings instead of travelling when in-person is not necessary
  • Take the stairs instead of the lift for 1–2 floors when able

Quick knowledge

Fact

Plan before you travel

Combining errands into one trip reduces distance and the number of journeys — saving both fuel and time.

Explain

Sharing rides

Travelling the same way together puts fewer vehicles on the road and reduces overall fuel use.

Explain

Short trips need no vehicle

Walking or cycling short distances avoids fuel use — and brings health benefits too.

Everyday Green Challenge
